What a Content Day Actually Looks Like

"Content day" gets thrown around a lot without much explanation of what it actually involves. Here's a real one, start to finish.

Before the day: the brief

Every content day starts with a short conversation, not a form to fill out. What's the site, what's happening on the day, what's it for, socials, website, a specific campaign. From that I put together a shot list: the coverage I know we need, plus a few flexible slots for whatever the site throws up on the day. For a flooring showroom and install business like the Ebley Street job pictured here, that meant a mix of in-store product shots, an install in progress, and a few customer-facing pieces.

On site: shooting to the list, not the clock

A content day can run half a day or a full day, depending on how much ground there is to cover. I turn up with camera, audio and lighting gear, and often POV capture on Meta smart glasses for anything process-driven. The shot list guides the day, but the best moments are usually the ones that aren't on it, a customer reaction, an unplanned before-and-after, a detail worth a close-up. Staying flexible on site is where a lot of the best short-form content actually comes from.

After the day: editing and delivery

A single content day produces enough raw footage for a batch of edited short-form pieces plus a set of stills. Editing includes colour grading, music licensing and resizing for whatever platforms the content is going on, vertical for Instagram and TikTok, horizontal for the website and LinkedIn. Everything lands in a Google Drive folder, sized and labelled.

What to have ready before booking

The smoothest content days happen when there's someone on site who can make quick calls, brief access, staff availability, a specific job scheduled for that day. It doesn't need to be complicated, just someone who can say yes or no fast if the plan needs to shift.
